Plaza Lavalle / Lavalle Square:

On Saturday May 25, and to celebrate the day of the homeland, took place the complementary outing of Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires to Lavalle Square.
The meeting was organized by order of Architect Alejandro Soneira, assistant professor of Architecture 2 of the National University of Córdoba, under the ownership of arch. Adolfo Mondejar to draw along with 60 second-year students of the cathedra, on their way through the city, as a study trip.

Cloudy and cold day, I left well snugged.
Already in advance I had planned to draw the Mirador Massue, mutilated exponent of the Art Nouveau of the city, but finally I decided on the Teatro Colón. Sitting very close to Libertad and Viamonte St. corner, and to cover the whole building, distorting the perspective enough so that everything fits in the page, with some environment to contextualize the sketch.
Drawn with Kaweco AL Sport fountain pen with EF nib with water resistant brown ink in 300gms Schoellershammer 25x35cm sheet.
Nice drawing afternoon despite the cold. Then we did the Expo of the production of the day.

Libreta Moderna Buenos Aires / Moderna Buenos Aires sketchbook:

Moderna Buenos Aires made a proposal to Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires to draw on 50 sketchbooks of the 200 that they gives annually to his associates.
The sketchbooks with original sketches will be delivered on special occasions or to illustrious visitors.
The tender was to make a sketch on the first page, preferably of a Modern Movement architecture that appears in the MBA catalog.

After going through the website searching for the buildings that I was interested in drawing, I decided again for the Kavanagh Building, which I already draw in other opportunities.
Apart from being a perfect example of the modern movement of Buenos Aires architecture, I was conditioned by the format of the sketchbook, that measures 9 x 14cm, and open is 9 x 28cm. So I had to find a building of similar proportions to make a fairly dignified composition.

I will remain with the intrigue of knowing who will be the future owner of the notebook with my sketch.

Thank you Moderna Buenos Aires for the initiative!

**************
Gray Saturday evening. At any time it would rain and I was hesitant to go for the #81 outing of Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires to East De Mayo Av., on 12/16/17. Last meeting of the year. I really wanted to draw there. Although I did many sketches along the avenue, I didn't draw there since a while.
I left home knowing that at any time I would return. At the most I would draw from a café table.

**************
I arrived earlier than usual and went straight to Peru St. and De Mayo Av. For long ago I wanted to draw the the former Gath & Chaves store annex building. I settled on my bench about 50m from the corner and tried to draw as quickly as possible. It was already black and at any moment the rain began, and it seemed that a lot of water was going to fall.
I was able to finish with the line work, with mechanical pencil 03 and 05. I could start with watercolor to paint the glasses and the rain begun. I took refuge under the roof of a newspaper kiosk that was closed and painted a little more. When I was already well wet I decided to leave that for later and see what I could do from another place.

I went to the Roverano Passage. Inside, I could draw out of the rain. Well, Saturday afternoon is closed.
I walked to the west and see if I could find someone from the group. There was Alex, Carlos, Eleonora, Alberto and Cesar drawing at the corner of De Mayo Av. and Piedras St., in the indoor ochava, or almost. It was already raining so little that I accompanied them there. Draw the opposite corner. A couple of toppings, from the corner to the middle of the block.
I did line work with 01 fine liner and watercolor on site. It took me around 90 minutes.

Still with a while until the end of the day, with sun I settled on the axis of the Tortoni Café building. I wanted to draw the canopy. When finished drawing it I decided to include the building.
With a rare decision I draw it in pencil, so that it is in the background.
That was it, then at home complete with watercolor.

For the expo, which we did in the Roberto Arlt square, there were few people. The bad weather was decisive to desist from going out to draw.
At night there was a Croquiseros party to close the year, but because of my son's birthday, I could not go.
Despite the rain it was a lovely afternoon. I made 3 drawings, but I stayed with work to complete at home.

Salidas varias Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires / Several Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires outings:

Pasaje E.S. Discepolo / E.S. Linda tarde! ************** A very hot January afternoon for this #82 outing of Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires. For a long time I wanted to draw the corner of Callao Av. and Lavalle St. This corner is atypical, since the E. Santos Discepolo Passage also converges, resulting in 5 corners. At 500 Lavalle there’s a rationalist building with an almost triangular plan and it results in 3 facades, on Lavalle, the passage and the ochava. The whole set has a very interesting morphology, highlighting the face of the ochava with the highest height. I sat down to draw almost on the corner of the Los Galgos Bar, at the expense of the inclement sun. As the afternoon progressed and the sun peeked over Lavalle, I moved with my stool back, to get back in the shade. Finish the sketch at 20m from where I started ... While I was already with the watercolors and enduring the heat, Eleonora Dorrego came and gave us 1/4 kg of Cadore's glorious dulce de leche ice cream. A blessing!!! Due to my movement to dodge the sun I ended up drawing next to “El Mono”, who made a very nice sketch of the same corner, so I did not hesitate and asked him to give it to me. At first I was not very convinced, but at the end of the afternoon he gave it to me. It will end up hanging in the home. THANK MONO!!! I will give you one from myself. For line work I use mechanical pencil 03, 05 and 1.3 then watercolors on Schoellershammer sheet 300gms / m². I really like the line in pencil and watercolor. I used this technique a while ago and will continue testing. Doing this sketch took me approximately 2:30 hours. And I could do only this one. The last minutes of the afternoon I took advantage of to chat with my fellow sketchers! After the Expo we finished the afternoon at the Bar Los Galgos. Nice afternoon!

On Saturday, November 18, outing #80 was held and 7 years of Croquiseros activities were celebrated. On 11/10/2010 was the first meeting in the same neighborhood, La Boca.
After visiting a construction site in the morning at downtown, then drawing and lunch at the Bar La Poesía, I left for the meeting point. It's like 25 blocks. I assumed they were less and I arrived at Brown and Galdos 3:30 pm (late!). When turning the corner I found the building commonly known as The Ghost Tower and without hesitation I sat down to draw. For line work and watercolors I was just 2 hours. At 5:30 pm I was already at Boca a Boca Bar for the afternoon snack, the expo and the anniversary celebrations.
Drawn on Alpha Series Stillman & Birn sketchbook with fine liners 005 + 01 and watercolors on site.

No secaban nunca!!! ************** On Saturday, July 15, 2017, the #76 outing took place on Uruguay St., between Córdoba and Corrientes Av. In this environment we find several significant public buildings, such as the National Office of the General Attorney, the National Civil Court, the National People's Registry and the most important: The National Palace of Justice. My idea was to draw some general view of one of these streets, but everything changed by the rains that lasted several days. With the obligation of drawing under shelter and without interesting views, I decided to sketch the topping of the Palace of Justice from the corner of Uruguay and Tucuman. Really uncomfortable by the wind and rain, although it was under the roof of the chamfer, the rain got us because of the wind. Perform line work with 03 mechanical pencil, and complete with watercolors in place. Working with watercolors was difficult, as receiving rainwater permanently washed it, and the watercolor passes did not dry. They never dried!!! It was the only drawing. As soon as I could get out of there I went straight to the Iberian Bar to have a hot coffee. Difficult afternoon to draw, but it is worth sharing this with fellow sketchers. El 14/1/17, on: 1/14/17.

The square is part of a continuity of open spaces delimited from L.N. Alem Av. Eastwards (river). They are not necessarily green spaces. There are parking lots, the Government House heliport, Columbus Park (don't know if it continues with that name, since the Monument to the Genoan sailor was retired).
The area is surrounded by CCK, Pink House, front buildings on Alem Av., Luna Park, I.T.B.A., Guardacostas Building, and in the distance the Puerto Madero’s docks, the Libertador Building, etc.
